Subject: Chimtek Specifications
Back to Home Page

CHIMTEK has been succesfully tested to the new UL1777 chimney liner standard with optional 2100 degree testing. CHIMTEK also passed this standard at zero-clearance to combustible materials. Details of this testing is contained in WHI TEST REPORT NO. 632-816500 which is available from Warnock Hersey International Inc. ; 8431 Murphy Drive, Middleton, Wisconsin 53562.

Although CHIMTEK has passed this standard, it is up to the local code authority to approve CHIMTEK for use in their markets. Code requirements , and enforcement, vary widely from area to area, and your local authority should be consulted.

It is also important to note that the CHIMTEK liner system is site-installed, and subject to variations by the installer/contractor. Deviations from CHIMTEK minimum specifications should be avoided.

CHIMTEK has been designed, and tested, to the following minimum standard:

"The CHIMTEK inner liner should be installed inside a chimney case constructed of nominal 4" masonry. There should be a minimum of 2" between the inner liner and the inside of the chimney chase, and this space should be filled with CHIMTEK leca insulation."

CHIMTEK is designed as a chimney lining system and inner liners should never be used without the secondary liner of CHIMTEK leca insulation. Twenty parts of leca insulation should be mixed with one part portland cement (by volume) and mixed dry to coat aggregate, then just enough water added to make mixture sticky.

At any point where mortar is used in direct contact with a CHIMTEK inner liner, that mortar should be of a refractory type listed to a minimum of 2100 degrees.

It is important that your customers, contractors, and installers understand and follow these specifications.
